E&H Theatre Department Presents Must-See Performances
The Emory & Henry College Theatre Department will highlight the impressive talent of Emory & Henry student actors with four unforgettable, must-see performances during the 2022-23 season on the Kennedy-Reedy stage of the McGlothlin Center for the Arts.
The season kicks off with Silent Sky. The play, based on a true story, is set in the year 1900 and follows Henrietta Leavitt while trying to balance her life. As she is working her dream job at Harvard University helping to map stars, she is afraid that her boss will take the credit she deserves.
On the other hand, she is very dedicated to her family but thinks it is time she tries her luck to find love. The play, which seeks to provide audiences with a new perspective on the lives of women in science, runs from Oct. 6 to Oct. 8 beginning at 7:30 p.m. and continues on Oct. 9 beginning at 2 p.m. on October 6-8, at 7:30 pm and on October 9 at 2 pm in the Kennedy-Reedy Theater.
The second performance features a musical, Songs for a New World, which takes audiences through the most vital moments in the characters’ lives. The production includes powerful music that compels an exploration of the world and the life-changing decisions often facing humans. The production begins at 7:30 p.m. November 3-4 and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5.
The season picks up during the spring 2023 semester with the multi-award-winning musical, Violet, which is based on a true story and follows a small-town girl named Violet Karl as she travels across the country to be healed by a minister. Audiences follow her on her journey as she seeks the true meaning of beauty. The performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on March 23-25 at 2 p.m. on March 26.
The last performance of the year is a dance concert titled Sign of the Times, which allows audiences to see how E&H dance students play with, engage in and push themselves in their own movements. This concert is the result of students choosing works to perfect and present to the world. Performances will be held at 7:p.m. April 14-15.
