Two Players Named All-American

Alex Braun ’21 led Emory & Henry softball to a runner-up finish in the Seguin Regional of the NCAA Division III Tournament this past spring (photo below). The Wasps finished the year with a 29-9 overall record and were one of the final 16 teams in the country. Braun was named to the All-American First Team by the NFCA, the program’s first-ever first-team selection. Jay Swegheimer

Jay Swegheimer paced Emory & Henry football to a 3-1 record and a spot in the ODAC Championship Game during the spring 2021 season (photo bottom). He led the league with 10.5 tackles for loss including 7.5 quarterback sacks. For his efforts, he was named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Year and selected to the All-America Second Team.

Dutton Named Scholastic All-American

Sarah Dutton was awarded with Scholastic All-American honors as one of the top student-athletes in the United States by National Collegiate Rugby. Dutton, a civic innovation and environmental studies major, has a cumulative 3.7 GPA.

“Sarah Dutton has been a steady force within the Women’s Rugby team,” says Coach Tom O’Neill. “She works hard on the Rugby pitch as well as in the classroom. Sarah represents Emory & Henry well as an affinity student-athlete.”
