Gloria Tuttle to join Crossroads Community Services Board as case manager

Our Emory & Henry seniors are preparing to graduate and change the world.

Tuttle will graduate with the class of 2023. “I feel as though I have a well-rounded education from Emory & Henry, but I also feel prepared to go straight into work,” Tuttle said. “Even though I didn’t have an internship, I still feel like I have the knowledge, understanding and skills to either go into the Psychology field or pursue further education.” She is a member of Adventure Team, Delta Rho Delta, Psi Chi Psychology Honors Society and Sigma Delta Pi Honors Society.

“Much like other students, the Pandemic was a hugely influential factor in my experience as a college student. However, even during those trying times, my professors were communicative and extremely supportive of students. This became even more true after COVID, and I cherish the relationships I have fostered with fellow students, professors, and staff members,” Tuttle said. “The professors I have worked with are also passionate about their students and are highly determined to help them succeed however they can. Of course, that doesn’t mean it will be easy. I was pushed to my fullest potential, and even though it was difficult, it was so worth it. After these four years, I am the best and strongest version of myself yet, and I owe much of that progress to my support team here at Emory & Henry.”

“The Semester-A-Trail program and studying abroad were also great learning experiences that I will cherish forever. Even after a major personal loss and actively handling grief all last year, I grew so much from those experiences in more ways than one, ways that I never imagined possible. In addition, even though I faced a great amount of solitude, I received an overwhelming amount of support from family, friends, and folks at Emory & Henry,” Tuttle said.

“After graduation, I will be working at Crossroads CSB in Farmville, VA as a Case Manager for Adult Mental Health and Substance Abuse,” Tuttle said. “I am very eager to begin full-time work here, as it will give me the perfect opportunity to apply my knowledge and degree in Psychology to meaningful work. Working with Crossroads will also give me the chance to give back to my community by helping individuals improve their lives one step at a time. In the future, I am also considering options for higher education.”

Tuttle received an associate’s degree from Southside Virginia Community College. She has a Wilderness First Aid Certification and a Global Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish.

My advice to students looking to come to Emory & Henry is to be open to trying new things and put yourself outside of your comfort zone. It’s always a little intimidating at first, but that’s how you grow and learn to live a little. On the contrary, I would also advise to know your limits. It’s easy to get “sucked in” to a bunch of different campus activities and groups. While it’s great to be involved on campus, it’s important to try to set boundaries for yourself so you don’t get too overwhelmed. Do what is best for you!
