M2 is a performance art duo founded in 2014. Members Tina Mullone and Mel Mobley utilize live music, live dance, and digital media to blur the lines between artist and art media. Performing in venues throughout the south, the duo challenges audiences to come to terms not only with complex and controversial themes but also with their place within the context of those themes.
The duo juxtaposes their live performance on top of prerecorded sound and dance in an effort to bring new meaning to the concert experience. In an age of digital media consumption, this juxtaposition draws in the modern viewer while adding another layer for the more traditional audience member. The mixture of live action and digital media creates an intriguing and intimate new space for viewers. In this space, each performer is a “sound artist” and a “movement artist” incorporating both elements into their performance. This breaking down of the barriers between art forms is the ultimate goal of this dynamic pair.
M2 has been featured at the Modern Dance Festival of Fort Worth, the Houston Fringe Festival, and the Concert of Inclusion in Monroe, LA. Upcoming performances include the Nachtmusik von BrainSurge series in Alexandria, LA. Their most recent work, Perspectives, includes a new collaborator – visual artist, Vitus Shell. With the addition of Shell’s visual art, M2 is excited about the possibility of taking an already powerful new art form to a new level and look forward to sharing it with audiences around the country.
