Emory & Henry College Lands in Four National College Rankings

Emory & Henry College ranks among the best liberal arts colleges in the United States, according to the annual list of rankings released this week by U.S. News & World Report, Best Colleges.

Emory & Henry moved up by four rankings over last year.

The ranking takes into account the college’s performance in areas such as graduation rate, alumni giving, academic reputation, class sizes and financial support. Emory & Henry is compared to other colleges that emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half of their degrees in the liberal arts fields of study per the survey guideline.

Factors contributing to the College’s improvement by four spots this year on the list to #162 (tie) of 173 schools ranked, include retention rate of 73% and the actual graduation rate of 52% being close to the U.S. News predicted national rate of 54%. In addition, Emory & Henry fared well in “debt load to graduation” at 71% or $27,825 that compares favorably to other colleges throughout the nation, placing the college at the 127 rank.

In addition, high school guidance counselors ranked Emory & Henry at #130 (tie) moving up by 14 ranking positions, of colleges that offer the best undergraduate education experience to their students.

The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings 2019, private, not-for-profit, liberal arts schools.

Emory & Henry College ranked joint 383 this year out of 968 institutions nationally. Its strongest Pillar was Resources (highlighting finances per students; faculty per student, and papers per faculty) where Emory & Henry ranked in the second decile. Forbes America’s Top Colleges

Emory & Henry was listed #605 in Top Colleges; #399 in Private Schools; #203 in Liberal Arts Universities; and #169 in the South. Forbes notes that 100% of all students at Emory & Henry received financial aid. Emory & Henry recently introduced the Southwest Virginia Lift program to help Pell-eligible students attend college for very minimal out of pocket expenses while community from the areas counties and three cities.

Washington Monthly 2018 College Rankings

In the Liberal Arts Colleges section, Emory & Henry was ranked at 196 of 228 in the nation above Virginia schools including Randolf College (201), Hampden-Syndney College (213), Virginia Union University (216), and Southern Virginia University (222). Emory & Henry fared well on its net price rank in the Social Mobility Category. Other categories included Research and Service in the Peace Corp, usage of federal work-study funds and AmeriCorp participation. Emory & Henry announced this summer it was starting a new ROTC program in partnership with East Tennessee State University. Three Emory & Henry students have joined the program by fall 2018.

A College That Changes Lives

Emory & Henry College is one of only 40 colleges listed as “A College That Changes Lives” by Lauren Pope. https://ctcl.org/It serves close to 1,000 students and now offers eight graduate degrees and one doctorate. It has five teaching sites from Marion, Va. to Bristol, Va. with its main undergraduate campus in Emory, Va.

This partnership will provide access for Emory & Henry College theatre students to certain elements of Barter Theatre’s professional staff and their expertise prior to graduation.
