An Opera about Locusts?

Cristin Colvin can even make insects glamorous.

It’s an opera about locusts. Or more specifically, it’s an opera about the disappearance of a rather enormous swarm of locusts.

Emory & Henry’s Cristin Colvin, Class of 2009, starred in the premier of the show called Locust,  first performed in the National Museum of Wildlife Art. It is billed as an “environmental murder murder mystery” as it examines the many scientific theories about the disappearance of the Rocky Mountain locust. The opera, by Dr. Anne Guzzo, is based on a book by Dr. Jeffrey Lockwood of the University of Wyoming.

The show features three characters and a six-piece chamber orchestra. Read about the show here, and you can catch a little of Cristin’s vocal performance here.
