State Fair Coming to the McGlothlin Center State
An enchanting musical built around adventures of the Iowa State Fair will be performed Feb. 21-24 at the McGlothlin Center for the Arts at Emory & Henry College.
Performances of “State Fair,” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21-23 and at 2 p.m. on Feb. 24. The
performances will be held in the Black Box Theatre of the McGlothlin Center for the Arts.
This enhancing musical provides a glimpse into the life of the Franke family and their three-day
adventure at the fair. While parents Abel and Melissa compete for blue ribbons, siblings Margy and Wayne are more interested in finding romance. By the end of the fair, the decisions each family member makes will forever change the trajectory of their lives. This lesser-known Rodgers and Hammerstein gem has both a stunning score and a hometown charm.
The musical is based on the book by Tom Briggs and Louis Mattioli. Lyrics are by Oscar Hammerswtein II, and music is by Richard Rodgers.
Director Olivia Allen is a directing student at Emory & Henry. Music direction is provided by Rachel Black, choreography is directed by Annalee Tull, and production design is the work of Kevin Dudley.
