As the Assistant Director - Internship Programs at the van Vlissingen Center for Career and Professional Development, my main initiative is to assist students in pursuing for-credit, academic internships locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
My main goal for students in pursuing an internship is to have an opportunity for career exploration outside of the classroom. Testing out a career field prior to graduating through an internship is a win-win-win situation.
- 100% of students who complete an internship say the internship was impactful in their career trajectory.
- 70% of employers look specifically for internship experience in a recent graduate.
- 60-70% of interns receive a job offer from their internship employer.
In 2006 I joined the Emory & Henry College staff as the Director of Career Services. Prior to joining Emory & Henry College, I worked for two years as a Graduate Assistant at Radford University, and prior to that for five years at Virginia Tech as the Administrator of the Co-op/Internship Program.
