Costa Rica - CORE 240: Teach ESL at the Copey Learning Center
Copey is a small town (~500) located in the mountains of Costa Rica, approximately 65 miles southeast San José. Copey Learning Center is a non-profit educational center dedicated to promoting social development through the learning of English as a Second Language. This organization offers programs to community members of all ages in the areas of environmental education and cultural development in order to foster social sustainability.
Emory & Henry College’s partnership with the Copey Learning Center provides students the opportunity to spend a summer teaching English as a second language to a variety of ages. E&H Students prepare for their teaching experience by working with the Director of the Copey Learning Center during the spring semester. They design lesson plans and activities to engage the Costa Rican students in learning English. Living with host families, E&H students are immersed in Costa Rican culture and develop skills that will enhance their personal and professional development. Students also have the opportunity to visit cultural and historical sites on weekends.
