Dr. Ron Sheppard
Clinical Assistant Professor
Dept. of Occupational Therapy
Ron is a clinician, university educator, speaker and consultant with 30 years of clinical experience focusing on rehabilitation through the life span of the neurologically impaired populations. Dr. Sheppard is an experienced occupational therapist who has specialized in stroke rehabilitation with an emphasis on Neurological Developmental Treatment with Certification (C/NDT). He was instrumental in the establishment of two outpatient OT clinics and continues to treat private patients at various stages of their Stroke Recovery between his new class schedule and his flying all over the country as an instructor, teaching an Evidence Based Stroke Recovery Course that he developed and wrote for Summit Professional Education (6.0 CEUs for allied health professionals).
Ron began his career developing his first outpatient Occupational Therapy clinic in both adults and pediatrics in Kingsport TN as a new grad. He was then approached by Holston Medical Group (HMG) to be the founding occupational therapist to develop their first OT outpatient clinic to combine with there already growing PT clinic. Ron developed this program into a very successful clinic from birth to geriatrics treating all diagnosis with a specialty in adult/peds neuro. Although Ron specializes in Neuro (NDT) he still considers himself as a “generalist” so that he can treat the patient as a whole to address all needs, from psychosocial to the physical.
Dr. Sheppard was previously an adjunct professor at Milligan Colleges’ MSOT program where he developed and taught the Geriatrics class and performed live patient Neuro Labs. He also was an on-line adjunct professor for 2 years with the University of St. Augustine, supervising OTD candidates with their final capstone. Ron continues to travel and teach groups of therapists around the country in which he was asked to teach his Stroke Recovery Course last year in Hawaii as the keynote speaker for their OT Association of Hawaii’s Annual Meeting. Ron is excited to be part of the Emory & Henry College and is proud to begin is first full-time faculty position and wants to instill his passion for learning and continuation of improving his clinical skills to his students.
