Costa Rica - ETLA 240: Cross-Cultural Christian Mission

Cross Cultural Christian Mission is a one credit course offered in the spring semester and is geared toward students who want to gain experience in the field of international Christian Mission. This course will look at the challenges and promises of mission, and it will explore how to serve in mission while being culturally aware. The course will include an 8-day study abroad experience in the area of Alajuela near the Poas Volcano in Costa Rica during Spring Break. The course will be divided into two sections. Before going abroad, the goal will be for students to gain an understanding of Christian mission its challenges. Following the study abroad component, students will discuss what they experienced abroad and how to incorporate that into their understanding of mission work as a part of Christian life.

 

The 2020 class will work with Rice and Beans Ministries (www.riceandbeansministries.com).  Service activities will include light construction projects, Vacation Bible School activities for children, and door to door food deliveries. This class meets once a week to explore the culture in Costa Rica and the role of Christian Mission the world today.
