Tony Clary

Director of Didactic Education/Medical Director for the MPAS Program Physician Assistant

Dr. Clary began his career in healthcare as a hospital Nursing Assistant at the age of eighteen. Majoring in Philosophy at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina he began work as an EMT in the Emergency Room of Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, eventually becoming a Paramedic for Spartanburg County EMS. He also served as an Autopsy Assistant at the medical center before returning to Wofford College for a second undergraduate degree in Biology.

 

Dr. Clary earned a Master’s Degree in Reproductive Endocrinology at the Medical College of Georgia conducting original research in Neuroendocrinology which he published in national journals and presented at national conferences. Dr. Clary remained at MCG for his Doctorate of Medicine and was a Dean’s Student Research Fellow prior to completing a medical residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania where he served as Chief Resident.

 

Over the next 24 years Dr. Clary practiced medicine as a Board Certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist in rural areas of Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Virginia. He has assisted his patients in over 2280 obstetrical deliveries and performed over 4300 surgeries. Dr. Clary has supervised PAs in his clinical practice and remains a strong advocate for PAs.

 

Dr. Clary has enjoyed teaching undergraduate, nursing, nurse practitioner, physician assistant and medical students in his private practice and was responsible for the training of medical students and residents in Family Practice and Emergency Medicine during their rotations in Obstetrics and Gynecology while in residency.

Research

Areas of interests for Dr. Clary include the training and mentoring of future medical practitioners, neuroendocrinology, abdominal and pelvic anatomy, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome and autism.

Professional Experience

He has served as Medical Staff President at Bladen County Hospital in North Carolina and Smyth County Community Hospital in Virginia and is a graduate of The Physician Leadership Academy.
