Dr. Graham-Thiers has over 20 years of college teaching and research experience. She has developed multiple courses in the Equine Studies department including Conformation & Selection as well as Equine Exercise Physiology.
Dr. Graham-Thiers has developed an undergraduate research program in the Equine Studies Program. Her research focuses on optimal dietary protein and amino acids for exercising horses.

The undergraduate research program has also helped facilitate original undergraduate research projects for students in the Honor’s program. Dr. Graham-Thiers also oversees the internship program within the department.
She has presented research at national and international meetings and has been published in many peer-reviewed journals.

She is a member of the Equine Science Society currently serving on the Nutrition Committee. She is also a member of the American Society of Animal Scientists. Dr. Graham-Thiers served on the subcommittee on horse nutrition for the National Academy of Sciences, which developed the 6th revised edition of Nutrient Requirements of Horses, published in 2007. Dr. Graham-Thiers was a finalist for the Outstanding Faculty Award in 2012 through the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
