March 1, 2021-Revised Attendance Policy for Outdoor Sports
The Emory & Henry College Department of Athletics, in conjunction with the College’s COVID-19 task force, has announced a revised attendance policy starting Monday, March 1 for all home outdoor sporting events during the 2021 spring semester. These limited attendance policies affect baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s tennis home athletic events.
Fred Selfe Stadium, Porterfield-DeVault Field, the Richardson Tennis Courts, and the Wasp Softball Field will all have a limited capacity in an effort of promoting and prioritizing the health and safety of student-athletes and game day personnel in light of the COVID-19 global pandemic.
No visiting fans will be allowed. The number of spectators will be limited by the venue’s capacity - which might be lower than the number currently allowed by the governor of Virginia. Each team will be responsible for assigning approved spectators at each contest and will put selected individuals on a pass list. Priority will be given to student-athlete parents and students.
For football home games, attendance will be capped at 1,000. General public tickets will be released after allotments are given to parents and students, and the number of tickets will be announced and made available the day before each game. All spectators will be given a QR code to access their ticket, which will be required for admittance.
There will be two entrances for football games. Students will enter at the gate near Martin Brock Student Center. All other spectators will use the home sideline gate near the Brooks Field House.
Proof of identity will be required upon entering all venues. Permitted attendees will be allowed to enter 1 hour before a football game and 30-minutes before any other contest. There will be no re-entry allowed once a spectator leaves the venue. All spectators will be asked to leave the venue within 30-minutes of the completion of the contest. There will be no field access for spectators at any time.
Approved spectators will not be allowed to attend if more than 5% of a participating team tests positive. Communications of fans not being allowed attendance will be made through the GoWasps.com website and on the social media accounts for Emory & Henry Athletics.
Masks/face coverings must be worn at all times while inside or at an athletic facility and during any contest. Any individual who does not comply with this policy will be asked to leave the facility immediately. The physical distancing of six feet or more is required between individuals not sharing a household. Gatherings of multiple individuals near highly-trafficked areas will not be permissible.
There will be no tailgating allowed. No concessions will be available at games, but fans will be allowed to bring food and drink into the venue; however, no coolers will be allowed. The restroom facilities at Fred Selfe Stadium will be open for all sports competitions. Gameday parking will only be allowed in the King Center gravel lot.
