Global Ambassador, Member of E&H Honors Program
Member of Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Honors Society, Phi Eta Sigma National Honors Society, and Sigma Delta Pi National Spanish Honors Society
Madeline is a fourth-year honors student at Emory & Henry College majoring in International Studies, Hispanic Studies, and History and expects to graduate this May. Since the beginning of Spring 2020, she has been working as a Global Ambassador with the International Office of Education. In conjunction with the other Global Ambassadors, Madeline assists students seeking to study abroad, and international students studying at the college. She also works with the International Office to promote international education, awareness, and global citizenship through the school’s academic and extracurricular programs.
Her abroad experiences began in the summer of 2019, when she volunteered as an assistant ESL teacher for the summer at the Copey Dota Learning Center in Costa Rica. There, she lived with a wonderful host family, assisted the head ESL teachers, and even got the chance to lead classes for pre-K through middle school age students. Madeline also spent a semester abroad in Toledo, Spain, in Fall 2019 at the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha. There, she completed coursework in international politics, history, and improved her Spanish while taking the opportunity to make new friends and travel throughout Europe.
In the future, Madeline plans on expanding her language abilities, continuing her international education, and pursuing graduate-level study. She is grateful for the opportunity to be involved with the college’s international education department to help its programs grow and encourage other students to pursue international education. She has benefited greatly from the college’s liberal arts curriculum and study abroad opportunities, which exposed her to new perspectives and cultivated an appreciation for international awareness and education.
