Calvin M. Joyner
Calvin is originally from Columbia, SC. He received his BA in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Literature & Language Arts from Coastal Carolina University and his MS in Higher Education with a concentration in College Teaching & Learning from Walden University. Calvin had the opportunity to participate in several organizations during his undergraduate time at Coastal. These experiences ultimately allowed him to find his calling in student affairs within higher education.
In 2019, Calvin started his career in higher education at the College of Mount Saint Vincent serving as a Graduate Assistant for the Office of Student Activities, Leadership and Commuter Life. The, he was promoted to Coordinator of Student Activities. There, he was primarily advising the Campus Activities Board, First-Year Class, and Junior Class. Calvin also managed the Commuter Life program and redeveloped the leadership development series, Phin-LEAD (Leadership, Engagement & Discovery). In 2020, Calvin became the Assistant Director of Student Organizations and Leadership at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC, overseeing student organizations, civic engagement, and leadership. He also had the opportunity to teach a leadership course to first-year students. Prior to beginning his career in higher education, Calvin worked as a licensed real estate agent for the state of South Carolina.
Calvin is passionate and enthusiastic about college student development, programming, building interpersonal relationships, mentorship, leadership development, and teaching/learning.
