Brent Treash

Instructor Mass Communications

Brent Treash (’01) returned to Emory & Henry as the Assistant Director for Media Relations after spending almost ten years at WCYB in Bristol, Va./Tenn. While working at WCYB television as a photojournalist, Treash explored Southwest Virginia, Northeast Tennessee and Western North Carolina to tell the stories of the people and places that inhabit these locations. In 2006, the Associated Press honored Treash with the award for best photography in the state of Tennessee for his piece on the dwindling number of live bugle players at military funerals.

In September of 2010, Treash left WCYB to return to his alma mater. In his daily work, Treash is responsible for all videography related to the college. His responsibilities carry over to the day-to-day photography of campus events. In addition, he helps market the college to media outlets on the local, regional and national level. His videography has been honored on multiple occasions by the Public Relations Society of America and the American Advertising Federation of Southwest Virginia.

The Business Journal of the Tri-Cities named Treash as one of the top 40 professionals under the age of forty in their December 2013 magazine.

“Emory & Henry really is a college that changes lives,” said Treash. “I’m a living example of it on two separate occasions - as a student and now as an employee.”

In addition, he has served as a member of the faculty in the Mass Communications Department teaching the Advanced Video Production class. He currently serves as the adviser to the social fraternity Beta Lambda Zeta.

Outside of Emory & Henry, Treash is on the board of directors for the Birthplace of Country Music and Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion. In 2017, he was selected to serve as chair of the music festival.

He currently resides in Abingdon, Va. with his wife Katy, a 2002 graduate of Emory & Henry College.
