What's your major?

American Studies and Africana

What are your hobbies or extracurricular activities?

Obviously, I really enjoy being outdoors. I love reading in the sun, taking my dogs for walks, listening to podcasts, and baking bagels. At school, I’m an Outdoor Club leader, urban gardening liaison, and I also play for the women’s ultimate frisbee team.

What attracted you to Semester-A-Trail?

I’ve dreamed of hiking the Appalachian Trail since I was ten, a dream inspired by my fourth-grade class trip to Springer Mountain, and the classically hilarious work of Bill Bryson. I always thought I would have to wait years to attempt my own thru-hike so when I found this program I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

What are you most looking forward to about the program?

There are many things I’m excited about, but I wouldn’t say that there’s one specific thing I’m seeking to gain. I’m hoping to embrace everything — the sun and the rain, the heat and the cold, the good and the bad — with open arms. Because I think that so much of the AT experience is about accepting the trail in its confusing, paradoxical, wonderful totality.
