Mary Bolt

Director of Transfer and Graduate Admissions Admissions

Mary originally came to Emory & Henry as a freshman by way of a college fair in her hometown of Virginia Beach. The admissions counselor and the Director of Admissions who were responsible for getting her here remain life-long friends. The potential for the same happening for with those whom she currently works is what she considers the best part of her job.

After previous careers as a reporter, paralegal and finally a career elementary school teacher, Mary relocated to Southwest Virginia from Durham, North Carolina and returned to her alma mater as Director of Transfer and Graduate Admissions. She is fortunate in that she has experienced Emory & Henry as an alumna, an employee and a parent of a graduate which has been invaluable in relating to the unique population of transfer students who choose to continue their educations at Emory.

The reasons for transferring from one institution to another are as varied as the number of students who choose to do so. Transfer students come to Emory with very individual goals and experiences, primarily seeking to match their future plans with the things they already have in their “portfolios”.

Quite often students who meet with Mary make apologies for leaving an institution that did not turn out to be the best fit. Emory & Henry has committed to maintaining an office designated to the individual needs of transfers because we know that is just one of the many life situations that drive students to the transfer office.

A large number of Emory’s transfer students make plans to attend a community college for two years before they transfer. The transfer office would like to invite you to come for a visit to discuss how to get the most out of courses taken at the community college and how to seamlessly continue your education at Emory & Henry.
