Bence Bays

Coordinator of Civic & International Education Support Services Appalachian Center for Civic Life / Office of International Education

This is my third year at Emory & Henry College and my fifth year living in Southwest Virginia. I was born and raised in South Carolina. I completed my undergraduate studies at a similar small liberal arts institution in Western North Carolina so I felt connected to Emory & Henry from day one.

The thing I most enjoy about the work I do at E&H is supporting our students and providing them with resources to be successful while they are here and after graduation. I do this work through the Appalachian Center for Civic Life and the Office of International Education. I also serve as the Staff Advisor for the Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter

One of my most memorable and meaningful experiences while working here was spending 10 days in Sweden and the Netherlands with a group of students on one of our short-term faculty-led Emory & Henry Abroad programs in May of 2017.

Another meaningful experience I have with our students each semester is serving as a co-leader for the IntentionaI Breaks Program. I have participated in four of these programs so far, working with Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans, LA; Charlotte, NC; and Sea Island, SC as well as with the Hiwassee River Watershed Coalition in Murphy, NC. I will co-lead my fifth program in Spring 2018 where we will travel to Port Arthur/Beaumont, TX and work with Community Collaborations International, an organization providing relief after Hurricane Harvey.
