Ty Smith

Coordinator of Civic Life Appalachian Center for Civic Life

Ty grew up in Tazewell, VA, graduating from Tazewell High School in 2018. After high school, Ty received a B.A. in Psychology and a B.A. in Sociology from Emory & Henry College in 2022. Upon completing his time as a student at E&H, Ty moved to Johnson City, TN to serve as a Graduate Assistant at East Tennessee State University and begin his M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. In 2023, Ty began full-time employment at ETSU where he assisted in programming for Access ETSU, one of ten inclusive higher education programs in Tennessee for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Ty is eager to be back at Emory & Henry serving as the Coordinator of Civic Life, he says “it feels like I’m at home, because I am.”
