Christmas at Emory

A wonderful night of singing carols, sharing the Christmas story and coming together as a community is what makes “Christmas at Emory,” a special tradition at Emory & Henry College. The evening of sacred and secular Christmas works and readings begins at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, in the McGlothlin Center for the Arts. The program, directed by Dr. Allyss Haecker and Dr. Matt Frederick, is a joint venture of Emory & Henry Music Department and Emory & Henry Spiritual Life.

“The program will be familiar to people who have attended before with the framework of lessons and carols,” said Dr. Frederick, music professor at the college. “There are opportunities for the audience to sing familiar and favorite Christmas hymns while the traditional scriptural stories of Christmas are told. In addition to the carols and lessons, there will be performances interspersed by the various choral and instrumental groups including the concert choir, chamber singers, brass ensemble, trumpet ensemble, woodwind ensemble, and the brass quintet.”

“The program is extremely popular and we encourage people to get their tickets early,” said Frederick.
