“A slip is something that no one sees you wearing but that changes the appearance of what everyone sees” --Rebecca Solnit
A Woman in Her Place, is a project to highlight the place of women in society. Artist were asked to create a work of art discussing female identity and place. In this instance place can include a physical place, rank, or cultural status, interpreted by each artist differently.
To keep this diverse, collaborative project cohesive the artists were asked to use the slip as a symbol of woman. Each artist was be given a slip or they purchase their own. Participation in the exhibition requires artists to return an artifact and/or documentation of the piece made with the slip expressing their representation of woman/female identity. Our intention is to create an exhibition that will feature diverse forms of art-making, media and content.
