Love for the College and Students is Easy to See on the Face of Davis

Melissa Davis was recently honored by Emory & Henry College as the June recipient of the Blue & Gold Staff Award.

Davis graduated from Emory & Henry in 2002, and has spent the past six years working in the field of athletic training. She currently serves as Head Athletic Trainer. A role that finds Davis helping coordinate insurance and many other forms of incoming paperwork related to athletics.

The Blue & Gold Staff Award was created to recognize outstanding Emory & Henry employees who go above and beyond the call of duty -- not only in their respective positions, but in the College community as well.

“Melissa is a remarkable individual,” said E&H President Rosalind Reichard. “The love she has for the college and students is written on her face whenever you see her.”

Davis is assigned to work both the varsity and junior varsity football team, women’s basketball and softball, but she is always there to help anyone in need.

“I want to make Emory & Henry a place that feels like home for each one of the students I see,” said Davis. “That’s how it was for me when I was a student.”

Davis is originally from Richlands, Va. and graduated from Emory & Henry in 2002 with a degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Athletic Training. She currently serves as the sponsor for the college’s Athletic Training Club. In addition, Davis teaches one class in the fall and one class in the spring focusing on the lower and upper extremities.

“I hate to say it, but working with the students is helping keep me young,” joked Davis.

In her free time, Davis enjoys the outdoors and visiting friends, family and her two lab mix puppies Tyson and Hershey.

If you know an Emory & Henry staff member who has performed exceptionally in his or her role and would like to nominate that employee for the Blue & Gold Staff Award, contact the Human Resources Office by the last business day of each month.
