Animal Welfare Protection

Emory & Henry is committed to providing humane care for and ensuring the proper use of animals used in research and teaching at our institution by our faculty, staff, and students. 

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is committee, qualified through the experience and expertise of its members, that oversees its institution’s animal program, facilities, and procedures.

All teaching and classroom uses (even when it is not research) as well as any research involving vertebrate animal species (excluding human subjects), regardless of funding source, has to to be reviewed the Emory & Henry IACUC

A protocol must be approved by IACUC before any activities regarding animal subjects can begin. 

Any animal welfare concerns should be reported to the Chair of the IACUC, Dr. George Argyros, tel: 276-944-6790 or the Research Compliance Officer, Bonnie Binkley, tel: 276-944-6921.  All reports are confidential and to the extent possible remain anonymous.
