Muhammad Ali, Islam, and Civil Rights in Multi-Religious America
Keynote Address -- Dr. Martyn Oliver
10:00 AM – Memorial Chapel Sanctuary
Dr. Oliver will ask us to re-consider how racial and religious identity both influence and complicate our on-going conversation about Civil Rights in America. By examining the role that American Muslims played in the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's, we can see how religious scripture can be used to justify social strife or inspire civic progress.
Dr. Oliver is a Professorial Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at American University
