Summer Pre-Health Camp
Emory & Henry College, in conjunction with Washington County Schools, will hold its second annual Pre-Health Camp for rising high school juniors and seniors, June 2020.
Students who are interested in exploring healthcare careers such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, athletic training, pharmacy, optometry, medicine or veterinary medicine are encouraged to attend the camp.
“The camp is a tremendous step toward increasing the number of healthcare providers in our region,” says J.P. Barfield, E&H Exercise Science professor and director of the pre-health program. “The Pre-Health program at Emory & Henry encourages a new generation of healthcare professionals to see what’s entailed in these careers while exploring healthcare in a professional summer camp setting.”
Faculty members from Emory & Henry’s School of Health Sciences, including faculty in the Athletic Training and Exercise Science programs, will lead the academic sessions. In addition, while participating in the camp, students will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about specific healthcare professions by shadowing a health professional for half of their camp experience in the afternoons.
The 2019 camp was held during the day from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Washington County Career and Technical Education Center in Abingdon, Va. (map). Spaces are limited and on a first come first serve basis.
*The fee for attending the camp in 2019 was $60 per student. Financial assistance may be available for students that qualify to cover all or part of the camp tuition. Please contact Dennis Cobler or J.P. Barfield for questions regarding camp tuition.
